DecisionRealEstate.com Applauds South Carolina's to Reverse Its Stance on Consumer IncentivesResidents of South Carolina now entitled to valuable consumer incentives and rebates when using a licensed real estate brokerage to buy or sell a home RISMEDIA, July 14, 2006—RealEstate.com has announced its full support for South Carolina's decision to lift the state's ban on real estate related rebates and inducements. This newly-instated bill, passed in June 2006, enables real estate brokerages licensed in South Carolina to offer their customers incentives such as rebates for buying or selling home with their companies. It also provides an important tool for home buyers and sellers to reduce the costs of the real estate transaction. "We applaud South Carolina's move to offer its residents a break on what is usually the largest and most financially significant purchase they will ever make," said Eric Cunliffe, senior vice president and general manager of RealEstate.com. "By allowing real estate brokerages to offer incentives and rebates, both agents and customers can have a competitive edge in negotiations -- something that couldn't be more important in today's changing market. We hope South Carolina's decision will be a catalyst for the remaining 'non- rebate' states, and will inspire those states to embrace consumers' rights to choose new real estate models, and brokers' right to use new forms of competition in their local real estate markets." EDITOR'S NOTE: There are currently eight states that fully ban rebate
offerings from real estate brokers to consumers. Those states are:
Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey
and Oklahoma.
